Top comedians and entertainers from around the region will once again take to the stage this Christmas to make sure no child goes without a present.
Laffs4Kids, the brainchild of award winning comedian and writer Jason Cook, launched in 2015 after he discovered that 40,000 local children would go without a Christmas present, unless Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign stepped in to help.
Desperately wanting to contribute, Jason called his comedian friends and over the last three years the line-up has included Chris Ramsey, Sarah Millican, Tim Healy, Gary Delaney, Justin Moorhouse, Carl Hutchinson and the 2018 Britain’s Got Talent winner Lost Voice Guy plus lots of other well-known faces.
Billed as the “happiest comedy show you have ever been to” for one specific reason, the entry fee is simply a new and unwrapped Christmas present for a disadvantaged child. The North East community have certainly delivered, with over 14,000 presents donated on the night over the last three years. Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign then distributes the gifts to children most at risk of being forgotten this Christmas.
Northumbrian Water has once again committed to sponsor the event for the second year running, covering venue costs so that all proceeds can go directly to the charity to benefit children. Their teams got behind the event last year, collecting toys, organising sponsored activities, fundraising and volunteering at the event and in the Mission Christmas warehouse too and they plan on getting even more involved this year.
Jason Cook said: “This event is the ultimate feel-good Christmas event. The acts all give up their time for free, the audience pack out the venue, only pay a fiver for the show and bring thousands of gifts for disadvantaged children. Everyone wins, especially all of the children who then wake up with a present on Christmas Day. We’ve had some fantastic acts the last few years and this year is no different, but what really makes this event is the generosity of the North East people. I’m delighted that Northumbrian Water are supporting us once again, they really take this campaign to their heart their teams go the extra mile to make it a success.”
Louise Hunter, Northumbrian Water’s Director of Corporate Affairs, commented: “Laffs4Kids is a unique heart-warming event and it really captured the imagination of our people. It’s such a simple idea but so effective in making a difference to our communities, which is very important to us as a company. Our colleagues are already busy collecting toys and we’re looking forward to helping on the night and throughout the Mission Christmas campaign.”
This year’s event will take place on Sunday 16 December at Newcastle City Hall. The evening show sold out in three weeks so a matinee show has been added to the event for the first time. Entry fee is a new and unwrapped Christmas present, there is also a seat reservation fee of £5 to ensure there are seats for all. The line-up will be unveiled in the next few weeks and will once again be a feast of well-known comedy faces, musicians and some surprises too.
Seat reservations can be made at www.theatreroyal.co.uk or by telephone 08448 11 21 21.
